Sunday brought the revelation that all of the parts of my website that run MySQL & PHP setups were down. I’m hosted with Bluehost.com which has been very good for a couple of years and it was strange that after I updated the look of my splash page everything seemed to go ok, then go in the tank. I snooped around and found that everything was running ok with their servers, so this morning at the suggestion of another user from their forum, I wrote a ticket then called the help line. I spoke to a nice person named Nicholas, who within 15 minutes on the phone, was able to verify that all of my sites were down, and figure out what was wrong. Evidently, PHP4 is going away and instead of automatically moving everything, users are supposed to go in and change things over to the next version in their PHP dashboard. Well, I didn’t know this and don’t really understand it, but Nicholas rolled all of my stuff over and updated all of the files while I was on the phone. Everything works as advertised now and I really think that bluehost’s help desk did pretty well.
