Today was the 2nd round of the Lerua’s Picacho TT that’s put on by Saguaro Velo. It was a beautiful morning to be outside and the sparse traffic on the frontage road was nice. The photos of the 20k, 40k, and team TT will be up shortly on the “order prints” page. Here’s a sample of what I shot today.
Goggles: Kids Candid Photography
I was digging around yesterday and this image flashed by in the Lightroom filmstrip I was looking through. It’s just about perfect as far as I’m concerned and shows the funky and free little person she is.
This is the type of calm personal image that I like to make. If I had to put her in a fancy dress and under a modeling light, the result would be far different and it wouldn’t really show who she is.
iheartfaces: Funny, Silly Faces
Above is an older photo of my favorite little subject. I had just received my poverty wizard radio triggers in the mail and she was keeping herself entertained with the fan that was in the room on the floor. (it’s a vornado fan, and they’re good for hair blowing) I pointed a flash at her and one at the wall behind to try and blow it out completely white; you can still see some of the mauve color at the top. The part that cracks me up is her tongue. It goes out like this when she’s really into whatever she’s doing at the time.

Swim Lessons
Tonight was the first meeting of swim lessons for my daughter at the Ott YMCA where she also goes to preschool. They put them into the shallow pool five days a week there, so her swimming skills have improved by leaps and bounds since she started. Tonight’s class was taught by Jan, who is wonderful with the kids. It looks like it’ll be fun.
Outsourcing
I’ve been working over the website lately and coming up against the limits of my knowledge when it comes to all things code. Today, as I was running through the LinkedIn updates that I get, I found that Liane Carmi, a colleague of mine back when I worked for Sprint, is working in marketing and SEO optimization. I hope to partner with her soon and look forward to learning from her again; she’s a great teacher.
Transition
Today was the transition from Serendipity, a platform that I wasn’t really adept at operating, to WordPress. Hopefully, I’ll have everything here up and running soon, so do check back in a week.
Picacho TT 2009
Sunday morning was the first round of the Saguaro Velo Picacho TT series sponsored by Lerua’s. There was a good turnout for the 20K and the 40K categories even though it was getting pretty warm toward the end of the 20K. Tucson cycling photos from this event and others are posted for sale here.
Facebookin’
I recently set up a facebook account for the photo business to see if the added exposure helps any. We’ll see. A friend from Folsom, Katie Hobson, is on a parallel course and her link can be found over on the sidebar.
Three Bears TT – Round II
A friend was promoting the Three Bears TT this past weekend, so I dusted off the camera gear and headed out. It was an early wakeup, but the clear roads and beautiful scenery made up for it. The race seemed well organized and everyone I saw was enjoying themselves….at least 5k into the day they were enjoying themselves. I had a great time and even got to sample some of the blueberry pancakes before taking off. They were wonderful!
The Tucson cycling photos from this TT are up and ready for printing and shipping here.
Tanque Verde Girls Softball
Earlier in the week, my daughter and I ran into the Purple Cobras at Palo Verde Park. They’re one of quite a few teams in the Tanque Verde Girls Softball League. Phil, one of the assistants with the Purple Cobras, told me that I should come out and shoot this weekend, so I took him up on it. It was a great day and all of the girls did really well. I was really impressed with the coaches and I hope that my daughter has coaches as nice as these when she picks up a bat or ball someday.
